Born and raised in Connecticut, Joe Futschik graduated from Connecticut College in 1991, with a degree in fine art. Three cities and eleven years of waiting tables later, Joe relocated to Portland, Oregon and developed a strong interest in modern design. Shortly thereafter, lighting and furniture were added to Joe’s portfolio, and with encouragement from the local design community jefdesigns was born. A one man (and dog) design and build company whose philosophy is to intuitively create simple yet bold, modern compositions. Largely self-taught, Joe has learned to trust his instincts and to create work that reflects his interests, regardless of current trends, styles and materials.
Joe has received requests for his designs from private clients, retail stores, and architects. Custom lighting and paintings have been commissioned by Microsoft, Nordstrom, and a variety of restaurants, nightclubs and hotels in the US and Canada. Joe’s work has also been featured in several national as well as international design magazines.
